PLEASE NOTE: This event is taking place at Brunswick Methodist Church (NE1 7BJ) as part of our off-site programming while we busily renovate our new premises.
At the general election of 1945 the expectation was that the Conservative Party would thrash Labour because Churchill\'s government had won the war. But instead Clement Atlee\'s Labour Party won a landslide and their government - in line with an egalitarian spirit suddently felt across the country - got to work founding the NHS, the welfare state Nationalised industries, public housing and so on. In this film Ken Loach, one of Britian\'s greatest directors, looks at this period and also asks what happened to that feeling of unity and optimism?
Potentially a timely film while we ponder a contemporary turning point and wonder what our future holds.
The film will start promptly at 7pm to make time to be followed by a discussion.
Tickets are £4. We are holding some tickets back for sale on the door. As with all S&S film screenings, we will not turn anyone away who can\'t afford a ticket.
As the Star and Shadow continues to build our new home at 210 Warwick Street we are hosting the occasional off site film screenings and fundraising events.
